Earth’s Ice Ages: A Brief History
Contrary to popular belief, the Earth has experienced numerous ice ages. Some happened before there were humans, and they were frequently more terrible. The entire world may have at times been frozen, a phenomenon known as “Snowball Earth” by scientists. According to some ideas, the emergence of new life forms, such as plants and single-celled and multicell animals, altered atmospheric carbon dioxide and oxygen concentrations, hence causing specific ice ages. Refer to New Scientist for a thorough summary of the history of ice on Earth.
Although Earth will continue to experience cycles of ice and warming, the projected rate of warming for the next century is at least 20 times greater than earlier warming phases. This raises questions about the long-term effects of human-caused climate change on these natural cycles.
