Frozen Mummies Were Among of the Best-Preserved

Frozen human bones from the Andes to the Alps provide fascinating details about life hundreds of thousands of years ago. The Incan adolescent known as La Doncella, or the Maiden, who was left with two younger children as sacred gifts close to the icy summit of an Argentine volcano more than 500 years ago, is one of the specimens that has been preserved the best. Tzi the Iceman, another, much older example, was found in the Alps close to the Austria-Italy border in 1991. Tzi’s body has been remarkably well-preserved despite being a corpse that is 5300 years old.
